Typically, this would lie between the ages of 12 to 23; however, everyone matures at their own rate, so some may enter adulthood earlier than others. I feel one becomes a young adult when they let go of playing and make believe, and start to form their identity. They will begin questioning the world and come to understand concepts such as oppression and injustice. They will also go through an emotional rollercoaster as they encounter a mixture of things they never have experienced before, such as relationships, heartbreak, betrayal, and competition. Young adults will go through depression and anxiety over many different things, such as their appearance, and may even have suicidal thoughts, but will learn to accept their imperfections later in life. They also will begin to form an understanding of their own identity, and make decisions about their future, such as college, or a career. Overall, I feel that all young adults reach a point in their life when they must decide the kind of person they are going to be, whether they are consciously doing this or not. What I mean to say is that a person’s attitude, personality, and the way they treat others is significantly formed during this stage.
I beleive the overall meaning of being a young adult is discovering who you are. As a child, we are mostly conditioned to be the way our parents expect us to be. However, as we approach our teenage years, we begin wondering who it is we each want to be. The creation of one's self identity typically consists of external factors such as parents, siblings, peers, and pop cultural influences. But discovering yourself doesn't mean you sit down and brainstorm who it is you want to be, it is a series of years and events. I believe the most important of these events may actually be the rebel years most teenagers go through. For me personally, I remember the first time I got in serious trouble as a teenager. From that moment on, I became more conscious of wanting to be a "good kid". These learning moments are typically mislabed as acts of rebellion, giving young adults a bad reputatation. Being a young adult is harder than most remember, having the pressure of find your identity amongst your family, peers, and society.
I actually think young adult to me means being a bit older than a lot of the texts we read in class. I still feel like a young adult and am not really sure when I will feel as though I have transitioned out of this period. Also, I am not sure at what age I felt like I became a young adult.

What does it mean to be a young adult? Well to me it means being able to make your own decisions but still rely on other adults financially or in some sort of significant way. If it is not financially perhaps it is for things like time management but I guess for both of these things, some even when considered an adult, are not independent.

It also means being of or below a certain age that are society deems adulthood; however, this age is probably impossible to pin down due to several different marking points of adulthood (drinking age, voting, tobacco, college graduation, high school graduation etc. etc. etc.)

Overall, being a young adult means defining yourself as a young adult, someone who is emerging as something else, not yet settled done -- unless of course your vision of adulthood is to be anything but settled. I am not even sure what my vision of adulthood is either so it is hard to describe my own young adulthood. The meaning of being a young adult is complex to put it briefly.
I think the idea of a young adult is constantly changing due to different stresses from society. First of all there is the general age group; let’s say approximately 10-18 years old. This is a very broad range that face different issues. What is probably the most prominent is transitioning from the innocence of childhood to the awareness of an adult. This is the time when kids really begin to face issues such as developing in depth personal relationships, whether romantic or otherwise. There is also a social stress on deciding a future. Yes, every child has some idealized version of what they will be when they “grow up” but this is the age group where it becomes a serious consideration. Along with this future idea, kids start to learn about their identity and who they want to become.
