Emalee, this is a terrific list, and I love the way you've presented it to students using fonts, cover images, and "book talk" blurbs that are inviting and accessible! :) How did you choose these texts based on the surveys? Looking forward to hearing more about your analysis! - sherrymi
Dr. Sherry, thank you for your compliments on my book list I used for my literature circle students! My students had stated on their surveys that they enjoyed reading books that had mystery and suspense. I then looked at the Lexile level for sixth grade student. I went even further by finding out some of the Lexile levels of the books that I knew that students had read from what they wrote on their surveys. The students were all over the sixth grade Lexile spectrum with the books that had read in and outside of school. I chose books that were at the lower-mid level of the Lexile for sixth grade, I didn't want the books to be too easy, but I also didn't want them to be too hard...I guess you could say I was trying to play it safe. I hope the book that they chose works out well with their reading abilities!
